Alexandria Preservation Awards The Historic Alexandria Foundation is pleased to announce its annual Alexandria Preservation Awards Program. The awards will recognize significant contributions to the preservation of Alexandria's historic resources. The awards will honor restoration, conservation and stewardship projects that demonstrate outstanding efforts including: Interior restoration or rehabilitation of an historic structure Exterior restoration or rehabilitation of an historic structure Conservation and stewardship of an historic resource Evaluation Criteria and Judging The Alexandria Preservation Award applications will be judged by a panel of preservation experts, who base their decisions on the quality of restoration and the project's adherence to the Secretary of Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings. Awards will be presented at the annual meeting of the Foundation in June of each year. Who May Enter Property owners, professionals substantially involved in the project (including architects, contractors and craftspersons) and organizations, businesses, or agencies involved in historic preservation in Alexandria. Historic Alexandria Foundation Board members are not eligible to apply. Categories Restoration or Rehabilitation:  Awards in this category are presented for outstanding achievement in the restoration or rehabilitation of an historic structure. Fine craftsmanship in retaining or recreating documented historic features is included. Conservation and Stewardship:  Awards in this category are presented to stewards of historic resources who, through long-term care and maintenance, stabilization and protection, or through granting of an easement, are ensuring the preservation of the historic resource. Nomination Requirements Projects must involve buildings that are over 50 years old and are located in the City of Alexandria. Nominations may be made by the owner, project team, or organization. Owners of properties, if not applying directly, must provide written consent. All supporting materials must accompany the nomination. Applications must be submitted by May 1, 2009 to the Historic Alexandria Foundation at the address on the application form.
